Why not we consider to dispense with web check-in facility till the time Airlines withdraw the fee for web check-in

Indigo recently had come out with charging of fee from the passengers who use their web check in facility. This fee could be even as high as Rs. 600/- per passenger. It is understood Spice jet is following the suit and with such latest move of Indigo Airlines to charge fee for web check-in, the stage is being set by other Airlines to follow.

The web check in to a great extent is a relief onto the Airlines through which the Airlines can reduce their work load at the counters and in a good business sense, the cost reduction through such check-in should ideally be passed onto the passengers to encourage them to use web check-in facility. Instead of offering any discount to the passengers, the Indigo Airlines have imposed cost on the passengers if they check-in themselves. As such such fee being charged by the Airline become unethical business practices and need to be seen as penalty or may seen as an profiteering  if they are reducing the cost of deployment of manpower at manual check-in counters, increase in space due to more and more requirement of the counters to cope up with the possibility of shift of passengers from web check-in to manual check-in at the counters.  Since charging of even a single paisa for web check in facility is totally an unethical business practices as such it is felt that the features should get implemented with offers of discounts. In any case it is logically to say that such charging of fee need to be withdrawn with immediate effect. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is appealed to intervene as there is no reason for such charging of fee and discrimination the passengers to disadvantage.

Cant we consumers unite together and compel Indigo to withdraw such unethical fee. Lets decide we will go to Airport, stand in queue which otherwise is also required in case the baggae is required to be dropped, get boarding pass issue for whatever the seat available without any preference. I have reason to believe that Indigo would be compelled to withdraw the proposed charges/ fee for web check-in as the manual process would put pressure on the Indigo resources in terms of the manpower as well as additional cost and may be the Airlines would loose its efficiency of time management.
"My appeal- Lets dispense with web check-in facility till the Airlines withdraw the fee.

  1. The response as received from Indigo through an email is quoted below: However the response is vague.
    "Greetings from IndiGo!
Please note that the pricing is only for advance selection of seats, if a passenger checks-in at the airport the seats would be assigned free of cost as per the availability.

Advanced selection of seats with a nominal fee helps the passengers to reserve the seat of their choice onboard.

In case you are travelling with multiple passengers together we highly recommend you to pre-book your seats so that you can travel along side with your loved ones.
Our policies are designed to provide hassle free experience to our esteemed passengers all the time. We are looking forward for your understanding on the same."
